The aim of the study is to obtain a university professional qualification in the field of film and television visual effects.
The study is full-time and lasts 3 years.
It ends with state exams in Theory of Visual Effects, Theory and Practice of Selected Graphic and Compositing Programs, and History of Visual Effects, and with the defense of a practical bachelor's thesis. The graduate receives a "bachelor" degree and is professionally prepared to perform professional practice.
The basic conditions for admission to a bachelor's degree program are:
  1. completed secondary education with a high school diploma
  2. successful completion of the entrance exam
  3. English as a basis for self-study of foreign professional texts
  4. demonstrable talent
By JANUARY 3, 20xx, applicants must send the following mandatory works (in a separate envelope, not together with the application form) by registered mail (postmark no later than 3.1.20xx) to the address of the FTF VŠMU, Visual Effects Studio, Svoradova 2, 813 01 Bratislava :
Homework:
  1. 1. Color versions of a photographic image . The applicant photographs the object of his/her interest, architecture, model, landscape, etc. and creates 10 color versions using any computer technology. In this way, he/she presents his/her idea for different daylight and atmospheres. (Tools: day, night, morning, evening, sunny, cloudy, moonlight, rain, snow, rainbow, artificial light in different colors and combinations, can use the principles of coloring...). The recommended program for implementation is Adobe Photoshop. The minimum resolution is HD resolution. The work is submitted in electronic form, "jpg" format, on a presentation DVD and electronically together with other works.

    2. Masking. The student submits a photograph, which includes inserting the entire figure from one photograph he/she took into the environment of another photograph he/she took. Not only technical, but also artistic rendering is expected. The photographs are in "psd" format, all working layers are preserved in them, and in "jpg" format. The recommended program for implementation is Adobe Photoshop. The minimum resolution is in HD. The work is submitted on a presentation DVD and electronically together with other works.

    3. Vectorization of a photograph. Using a program designed for vector graphics, the applicant converts the photographed portrait of a person (D, PD, PC) into a vector form. The photographs are in the format "ai, cdr..." (all working layers are preserved in them) and in the format "jpg". For comparison, the applicant submits both the source and the resulting photograph. Recommended programs: Illustrator, Corel and others... The work is submitted on a presentation DVD and electronically together with other works.

    4. 3D self-portrait. Artistically stylized 3D model - self-portrait, created in any 3D program. It must be delivered in "obj" format with textures and render, maximum size 300,000 polygons and 4000 pixels. The work is submitted on a presentation DVD and electronically together with other works.

    5. Video presentation. In a maximum of 2 minutes, the student will talk about their motivations to study visual effects at the Faculty of Film and Television of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in a video film, using a montage of their previous work and personal audio statement. The creative component - tempo-rhythmic, technical, aesthetic and informational - is also assessable in the video presentation (students can use it to sell their preschool activities in the field of their interests, and a very brief showreel can also be included). The video recording is in a common format: "mp4" or "mov". The work is submitted on a presentation DVD and electronically together with other works.

    6. Portfolio in electronic form . The applicant must demonstrate his/her interest in the chosen field of study through his/her own works (e.g. 3D, 2D works, video films, free photographs, websites, etc. ...). He/she ranks them according to the importance he/she attaches to them in order from the most important to the least important. The work is submitted on a presentation DVD and electronically together with other works.

    7. Explication . The applicant submits a description and explanation of their free works (Arial, 12, "pdf").

    8. Self-portrait photo. It is in "jpg" format, the photo is in color and captures the applicant's face. (The photo is primarily for informational purposes and is not related to talent assessment.)

The explication is printed in one copy, must be written on a computer (Word, OpenOffice) in an appropriate scope and logical form (Arial, 12, "docx, odt" converted to "pdf") and must be marked with the name and address of the listener.
The printed form of the explanation (1) is part of the sent envelope containing the homework, which also contains a data DVD (2).
The listener also sends the explanation in electronic form by e-mail to the address: vizualneefekty@gmail.com
The explication is named in the format:
AVFX_2018_explication_Last name.pdf.
After receiving the e-mail with the explanation sent by the VFX Studio, the applicant will receive in the return e-mail the access password to his account on the VŠMU server, where he will send the electronic content of the sent DVD to the school server in an unchanged structure via the FTP protocol. The program for sending electronic data can be, among others, e.g. FileZilla, WinSCP, Total Commander...
Admissions interviews
The admissions committee assesses the level of talent for the chosen field of study based on submitted papers and papers created during the entrance exams.
The entrance exams are in two rounds. They consist of completing school assignments and defending the completed work:
Round 1 - implementation of school assignments (day 1):
1.1. The general cultural test determines the applicant's educational level, his/her outlook on art and especially on audiovisual culture, basic orientation in film and television technology, as well as general cultural outlook and primary knowledge in the field of culture and art.
1.2. Visual test focused on memory and psychological-analytical abilities.
1.3. The VFX test is a professional test in the field of visual effects.
1.4. Implementation of the 1st practical assignment as an analogue of 3D homework completed in the SW environment of homework.
1.5. Implementation of the 2nd practical assignment as an analogue of 2D homework done in the SW environment of homework. The prerequisite for implementing tasks during the entrance exams is the applicant's own or borrowed laptop or portable computer with the SW that the applicant used to complete the homework, their own camera and a USB key or HDD. (The school does not lend computers, laptops or cameras.)
Round 2 - defense (day 2):
2.1. Defense of submitted homework and school projects. The 8-12 most successful applicants will have the opportunity to defend their projects in an oral interview after evaluating the results of homework, the 1st round of school projects and tests.
ENTRANCE EXAMS WILL BE HELD ON THE DAYS
FEBRUARY 9 - 10, 20xx
According to the Study and Examination Regulations of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, it is not possible to hold the entrance exam on another - alternative date. The expected number of admitted applicants is 6.
The expected numbers of admitted applicants are indicative. Final decisions on the number of admitted 1st year bachelor's students in individual FTF programs and plans for the academic year 20xx/yy are within the competence of the members of the Central Admissions Committee and the FTF Dean, who will responsibly assess the talent and personality requirements of applicants for study.
The admission of applicants who have not yet passed the high school leaving exam is conditional on their completion no later than the date of registration (September 20xx).
SCORES ON ENTRANCE EXAMS
Maximum possible total number of points earned: 130
Minimum number of points earned to advance to the 2nd round of entrance exams (sum of points for homework and disciplines of the 1st round): 60
Minimum total number of points earned for admission to BC. studies: 80
STUDY APPLICATIONS
The applicant can send either a classic hand-filled paper application for undergraduate studies on a purchased ŠEVT form, or he can fill out an ELECTRONIC APPLICATION . FTF prefers an ELECTRONIC APPLICATION.
After completing the electronic application, you must print it out and send it by mail!
Applications are accepted with a date of dispatch (postmark) no later than DECEMBER 2, 20xx.
They are sent to the address: FTF VŠMU, Study Department, Bachelor's degree, Svoradova 2, 813 01 Bratislava.
APPLICATIONS must be properly completed. The required high school code and field of study code must be indicated.
ANNEXES TO THE APPLICATION: a receipt (paper receipt) of payment of the fee, a CV, a certified copy of the school-leaving certificate. Annual reports can be certified copies, or a transcript of grades for completed high school years is sufficient - this must be confirmed by the school.
The INVITATION to the entrance exams will be delivered to you no later than 2 weeks before the entrance exam date.
