COVID-19 IS PLAYING US AWESOME
The goal of the assignment is to create a compositional, realistic-looking collage , full of ideas and creativity, from at least 10 input photographic elements, where none of the mandatory elements in the image takes up more than about 20% of the area. After completing the assignment, create a making-of of the creation process.
- The composition includes an unlimited number of figures, but at least three figures with the physiognomy of a European, an African-American, an Asian, each inserted from a different background shot, who are also important world politicians. These figures may or may not be from a frontal view. (3 conditions.)
- The dominant character in the image is your character with a recognizable face, chosen from your personal archive. It does not exceed 20% of the image. (4th condition.)
- Inserting the metaphor of a musical instrument that, in the representation of COVID-19, "plays to our feelings". This is a specific musical instrument that you choose from a database on the Internet, with which you interpret the metaphorical representation of the connection between Covid and a musical instrument. (Conditions 5 and 6.)
- Compulsory violin lesson with optional option. (7th condition.)
- 3 free decisions for inserting a suitable and imaginative image layout. If necessary for the idea, more keyed motifs can be inserted.
Starting points:
- The applicant uses his own archive, as well as searching for inspiration and background images for the composition on the Internet.
- He works in the software he knows and in which he has done his homework.
- Listeners receive a package of footage, from which they choose one to be included in the composition.
- The resulting format should be landscape with a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 or higher. A higher working resolution is recommended for keying and masking and subsequent file size reduction.
- The composition should have a uniform atmospheric character, the design should be colorful, not black and white or colored.
- In the background photos, he uses simple graphics to mark the object he inserted into the composition, exports it, and uploads it to the avfx.sk website.
The candidate strives to create a unique atmosphere and at the same time the realism of the achieved result. In addition to unifying the atmosphere, candidates can eliminate objects that do not fit into the environment artistically, they can combine several environments. Full creativity is possible here.
IMPLEMENTATION PHASE:
Candidates start recording their work environment in OBS. At the same time, they are recorded in a collective view in the TEAMS environment.
After presenting the assignment, candidates will download the written assignment and the package with the mandatory image from the TEAMS repository.
45 minutes before the deadline, they are instructed to create a 1-minute making-of consisting of an opening title, a recording of the increasing changes in the layers, and the closing titles.
Applicants submit their work to an individual TEAMS repository without the ability to see the work of fellow applicants.
In addition, they will upload their work to the avfx.sk website in a comparable manner to what they did when submitting homework.
The submitted work includes the final composition, all 10 input shots with a simple indication of the inserted fragment of the shot.
After submitting and uploading the work, outside of the specified time limit, they stop recording in the OBS program and, without stress, render the recording and upload it to the TEAMS storage.
This concludes the 2nd round of entrance exams for students.
TECHNICAL PARAMETERS OF THE OUTPUT:
Format: jpg, aspect ratio 16:9, lowest quality HD, mp4, frame rate 25 fps, aspect ratio 16:9
Preferred codec: H264, resolution 1280x720 or 1920x1080, bitrate up to 10 Mbit/s, Optimal preset “Youtube 1080p/25fps”.
File format:
AVFX_PS_2021_Last_Name_Number_2D_CovidNamHraNaCity.jpg
AVFX_PS_2021_Last_Name_Number_2D_CovidNamHraNaCity_MakingOf.mp4
EVALUATION PHASE:
The resulting projects are reviewed by AVFX teachers, who will assess the applicants' work in the context of other school and homework.
The results of participants advancing to the 3rd round of oral interviews will be posted on the school website and will be sent to applicants via a message in TEAMS. Due to the assigned points, not all applicants will advance to the 3rd round.
ORAL INTERVIEWS:
An indicative timetable for those advancing to the 3rd round will be sent on the WEB page and by email. Oral interviews will be held again in the TEAMS environment with a WEB camera turned on with composition in PD. Students will share their area when defending their papers. The order of participants will be listed on the school website on the same day. The Central Admissions Committee of the FTF will decide on the accepted applicants in the near future.
3D ASSIGNMENT: CHESS OPTICAL ILLUSION
The task of the candidate is to create an artistically and visually interesting optical illusion on the topic of Chess Optical Illusion in any 3D program within the offered implementation time (approx. 3-4 hours). During the final rendering, they will use the time to write a short explanation of the creation process.
CONCEPT:
Any combination of chess motifs of a chessboard and chess pieces and other objects, spaces, camera views and image deformations for the purpose of creating interesting and unpredictable situations and aesthetic image illusions in space. At the end, a visual point is desired.
EVALUATION:
The difficulty level is chosen to demonstrate the candidate's strengths.
Creative thinking, ingenuity, imagination, artistic sensibility, composition, timing, experience with visual narration, technical skill in 3D software.
Examples of focus:
Artistic talent. Interesting chess pieces seemingly randomly moving along both the XY and Z axes, creating a visually interesting whole.
Animation sensibility . Inventive camera angles, timing, animation style.
Motion design . Aesthetics of shapes in motion, visual narrative.
A really strong idea that you can't or don't want to generate using 3D software within the given time limit can also be processed as a set of concepts, sketches, and a storyboard.
The condition is that this documentation clearly and clearly reflects the form of the future visual work.
FORM:
The applicant will create a single-shot or multi-shot presentation with an opening and closing title from the renders of the 3D scene he created. He can use the editing program in which he made the Video Business Card at home. The work can be accompanied by music or noises that are not subject to copyright.
The result should be a comprehensive functional format with a length of 15 to 30 seconds, including subtitles.
If the applicant does not know 3D software, he/she will complete the assignment in the form of a Storyboard/Animatic.
If the applicant is unable to create a 3D scene render within the specified time, he/she will use alternative methods - PlayBlast, ScreenCapture.
Cuts, shots of different lengths - slow, long, short, fast. Principles of timing: repetition, gradation, contrast.
TECHNICAL PARAMETERS OF THE OUTPUT:

HANDING OVER
30 minutes before the time limit expires (at the latest), a prompt to export the result to the required formats comes. During the rendering, they write a short explanation of the exercise and export it to pdf. (It is not a condition of the assignment, it is an advantage if they have time.)
Candidates submit the assignment:
1. Applicants upload the exported files to the WEB page https://avfx.sk/.
Login, Add PS schoolwork (bottom of page), insert mp4 video and insert pdf file, Save.
2. Applicants send the exported files to the TEAMS repository, to which they have received individual access.
In case there is a technical problem with uploading to the TEAMS repository, the work should be sent to the following address: vizualneefekty@gmail.com
